This is a home renovation for a family of four. They currently live in an end of terrace house and whilst not in a Conservation Area, the street has a beautiful butterfly hip roofline along its length. Although the clients needed more space, an early decision was made not to interfere with the roof, but instead to change the circulation throughout the ground and first floor to accommodate the changing needs of this growing family.

The renovation includes a new rear extension that proportionally serves the original house; the Victorian vernacular is maintained at the front. However, it is contrasted with a clean, modern extension at the rear that attracts light and maximizes the view into a newly created ‘urban oasis’. The entire ground floor has been demolished and the circulation has been changed to flood the entire space with natural daylight.
