materials library

We care about our homes and the planet. Did you know the building industry accounts for 40% of carbon emissions? And residential emissions account for 64% of buildings emissions. So, using the right material in a building project helps tackle pivotal issues such as carbon emissions, loss of finite resources and/or pollution.

At A Small Studio we are building a materials library dedicated to the promotion of sustainable materials in the construction industry which is open to the public. Here you can find different products such as: a building brick made of construction waste; surfaces made of recycled timber composite; upholstery produced from recycled polyester made from common plastic bottles; and cross-laminated timber.

As an ongoing project, we explore the role of the built environment in climate change, the impact of residential building emissions and the embodied carbon in building materials. We analyse why these types of materials are important, how they can be used and what other sources exist in building projects. Once the material is assed we create a passport for each.
