This is a private commission for a young family who need more storage space for their terraced house in East London. A Small Studio suggested it was a perfect opportunity to build a space that doubles up as a playhouse for the young toddlers. We designed a new-build playhouse and storage shed using permitted development rights.
The design is practical and convenient for storage while playful and secretive for the kids. Importantly, it is designed to be flexible: in the future the inner partition can be easily removed so the shed can become a larger playhouse for the kids or a small home office. This was a fun project involving collaboration with a children’s illustrator and working closely with a carpenter.
