Refurbishment in a Conservation Area

Walthamstow Village, London

Type: Full-house renovation, extension and loft-conversion
Client: Private
Contract Value: undisclosed
Status: It came, and it went…
Collaboration: Suspended

This is a project for a two-bedroom terraced house in the Walthamstow Village Conservation Area. The house is currently one of the few on the street that is not a period property, and the clients wanted to address this by renovating it to meet a Conservation Area aesthetic. Internally, the existing house was in good structural conditions but required updating. On the first floor, the clients wanted to convert the house into three-bedrooms with an extra bathroom. On the ground floor, the house required full modernisation to make it functional, beautiful and fit for a young couple who have a busy social agenda and like to entertain.

The house did not have any period features, so a design strategy was to modernise the interior but make the exterior into a period property.
